Sumith Gamage holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Moratuwa and carries over 14 years of experience in the Software Industry. He has played a key role in the success story of Omobio alongside the team of Directors since its establishment in 5 years.
The ‘Emerging Entrepreneur’ award recognizes exceptional individuals who has created a business/concept with great potential and which had made a significant contribution to the society. This award acknowledges the business management skills, innovative skills and leadership skills and is judged by a panel of industry experts. “I am honored to receive this award, specially from my own University after 14 years graduation”. said Mr. Sumith. “I strongly believe in the initiative to address the software industry specially focusing the Telecom industry in today’s emerging and truly dynamic market at affordable price with great value to client is the secret behind our success” he added.
Commenting on the award, Dr. Chatura de Silva, head of department at Computer Science & Engineering, University of Moratuwa said, “The Department initiated the CS&ES Achiever Awards with the primary intention of highlighting the contribution of its alumni to national development in diverse areas such as technology, enterprise and innovation. We expect such recognition to energize the professionals in our community to strive towards achieving goals that would take Sri Lanka to be a leader in IT”.
The University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, is an independent state university established in 1978 and is renowned for producing quality graduates and innovative ideas. This year, the Department of CSE introduced a new dimension to Sri Lanka’s ICT culture by organizing the first ever awards ceremony to recognize and appreciate the contribution of CSE alumni towards the development and growth of the ICT industry of the country.
The awards ceremony was organized along with the Annual General Meeting of the Computer Science and Engineering Society. The event was attended by over 200 participants including leading industry professionals, academics, undergraduates and young engineers.
